Local Services Show Support for Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month

On Friday October 01, 2010, at 10:00 AM Rod Potgieter, Executive Director and Board President, Jeff Addley of
Family and Children's Services (F&CS) of St. Thomas and Elgin launched the 2010 Child Abuse Prevention Month
by placing magnetic purple ribbons on the marked vehicles of; Elgin O.P.P., St. Thomas Police Services, Aylmer
Police and Elgin St. Thomas Emergency Medical Services.
 

CHILDREN’S AID SOCIETIES ASK THE COURT TO REVIEW BUDGET PROCESS

In response to budget shortfalls, eleven Children’s Aid Societies (CASs) have taken the unprecedented step of asking the court to review the process used by the Ministry of Children and Youth Services (MCYS) to review CASs budgets. The Judicial Review was filed in London, ON on Tues May 04, 2010.

KIDS FOR KIDS DONATES TO CHILDREN IN CARE IN ST. THOMAS AND ELGIN

On February 10, 2010, at 2:30 PM a Ceremony of thanks will be held at 410 Sunset Dr. St. Thomas. Rod Potgieter, director of Family and Children's Services of  St. Thomas and Elgin will thank Jordyn Harrison, founder of Kids for Kids for the approximately 150 backpacks and duffle bags he donated to children in care in St. Thomas and Elgin.

Funding Shortfalls Threaten Child Protection Servces in Elgin County

"Children in Elgin cannot be protected beyond March 11, 2010 unless the Ministry of Children and Youth Services provides additional funding to the Family and Children’s Services of St. Thomas and Elgin. As a result, allegations of child abuse and neglect may not be responded to in the regulated timelines and children living in high risk situations may not be seen." states Rod Potgieter, Executive Director of the local Children’s Aid Society.
