Foster Care Services
The Foster Care program includes the recruitment, screening, training, support and utilization of families to provide care to children who can no longer live with their own family. Most children are placed in foster homes temporarily, ranging from a few days to several months, while other services are provided to help a family through a crisis and make the home safe for the child's return. However, some children cannot return home, and are provided with care and support until they are independent adults.
Kinship Services and Kinship CareThere are two kinship programs available through the Children’s Aid Society of St. Thomas and Elgin – Kinship Service and Kinship Care. Both programs are designed to allow children to be placed in the care of people they know, often members of their extended family and/or other members of the child’s community support group – someone the child is familiar with. Kinship options are always explored for children who are in need of protection, prior to having a child placed in foster or group care situations. (click here for more information) |
